The much-awaited magnum opus based on the glory of Lord Ram, Adipurush released into the theatres yesterday (June 16). The movie stars Prabhas in the lead role. While the expectations from the first-day collections of the movie were high, it has indeed lived up to them and has garnered a whopping Rs 36 to Rs 38 crore on its first day. This opening is for the Hindi version of the film across the nation.
Talking about the same, Adipurush’s all-India collections including the South version amount to Rs 90 crore. With this, the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer also becomes the third-highest opener after KGF 2 and Pathaan. According to a news report in Box Office India, the movie’s Telugu version in the Hindi circuits along with the other South version comes to Rs 90 crore while the gross collection amount to Rs 110 to Rs 112 crore.
Apart from this, Adipurush also beat Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra which had opened at Rs 36 crore. However, the Om Raut directorial could not beat Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan which had opened at Rs 57 crore, and Yash’s KGF which had seen an opening with Rs 54 crore. Now, it will be interesting to see whether the mythological film will be able to sustain these collections in the coming days since it has also been receiving a severe backlash and trolling as many viewers have been left unhappy with the execution of a revered tale like Ramayan.
Desimartini’s review for Adipurush read, “Talking about the performances, Prabhas, as Raghav tries to adopt the glory and bravery of Lord Ram but his demeanor and performance, lack the fire and spark needed for this role. There is an overwhelming monotony in his performance which makes you question his effort. And don’t get me started on Saif Ali Khan’s Ravan. Imagine an over-the-top and caricaturish combination of Khal Drogo and the Vikings. The maniacal laughter, blue contact lenses, spiked razor-cut hairdo, and the disturbingly giant body structure by a poor CGI makes his performance rather laughable. Sunny Singh as Laxman is dangerously one-note.” Earlier, the makers had also requested a seat inside the theatre to be kept empty for Lord Hanuman.
