Maharaja
Actor Vijay Sethupathi is now basking in the huge success of his latest movie, Maharaja. The film has given a much-needed boost to the Tamil film industry, which was going through a rough patch over the last six months.
The producers, Passion Studios, have claimed that Maharaja has sold more than Rs 81 crore worth of tickets worldwide within the first 10 days of its theatrical debut. According to some sources, the film has grossed more than Rs 37 crore in Tamil Nadu alone.
The Telugu states have emerged as the second-biggest market for the Vijay Sethupathi starrer after Tamil Nadu. The film has reportedly raked in more than Rs 15 crore from its Telugu versions domestically. It seems Sethupathi is reaping the benefits of all the hard work he put into playing supporting roles in Telugu movies.

Surprisingly, the film has also performed well in Kerala and Karnataka, where it has grossed more than Rs 10 crore collectively. The Rs 100 crore mark now seems well within its reach. If the film continues to maintain this bullish trend for the next few days, Maharaja may become the first solo film in Sethupathi's career to join the Rs 100 crore club.
Sethupathi has been part of movies that have earned nearly Rs 1000 crore in box office receipts. For example, he played the main antagonist in director Atlee's blockbuster movie, Jawan, starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. However, before the release of Maharaja, many wondered if Sethupathi alone could draw audiences to cinemas in huge numbers.

Maharaja proved all the naysayers wrong by exceeding expectations both in terms of ticket sales and commercial acclaim.
Maharaja is written and directed by Nithilan Swaminathan. It also stars Anurag Kashyap, Sanchana Natarajan, Mamta Mohandas, and Natarajan Subramaniam.
