When Ranveer Singh was propositioned by a small time casting agent during his struggling days before Band Baaja Baraat

Ranveer Singh has completed 11 years in Bollywood today with his film Band Baaja Baraat which released in 2010 and also starred Anushka Sharma. One of the top stars in Bollywood today, Ranveer managed to win over the audience with the film where he played Bittoo from Delhi, a performance of his fans love to date.

However, like many of his contemporaries who do not hail from the industry but dreamed of making it as actors, Ranveer too had to struggle to find his footing in the industry. The actor during his initial years appeared on Simi Garewal’s talk show where he revealed how he was once propositioned by a small time casting agent when he was struggling to get into Bollywood.

“He was a small time casting agent. I went to meet him and he met me in this seedy part of the suburbs. I went into his room and he proceeded to proposition me in his sleazy old way,” Ranveer said.

When Simi asked her what way, he enacted the man’s demeanor recalling what he had said, “’Ah very good nice pictures. Ok darling, tell me are you a smart worker or are you a hard worker?’ I would like to think I am a combination of both, smart and hard.’ I don’t want to know this or this, you tell me smart worker or hard worker?’ I was like ok, I am a hard worker. So he was like, ‘Darling, be smart, be sexy. Jo smart hai, jo sexy hai who aage nikal jata hai. Isko dekh lo, usko dekh lo, issne kiya hai, ussne kiya hai. Main toh kehta hoon sar aahon par, nothing wrong.’ And then he asked me the most explicit questions in the most explicit way.”

Prodded further the actor revealed how the man was mouthing names of body parts. The actor was baffled and wanted to punch the man and storm out of the place. Ranveer further dubbed the casting agent as a ‘despo’.

“I’ll tell you what he said,” Ranveer told Simi and went on to enact the man’s antics revealing things he said to him. “Kal main tumhe ye office mein bhejunga, kal main tumhe who office mein bhejunga, tumhe kaam mil jayega. 4-5 din baad sham ko hum kahin drink pe rahe honge aur tab phir maine tumhe professionally trap kiya hoga, emotionally trap kiya hoga, uss time pe tum khud bologe take, touch …”

The actor further called such incidents the ‘harsh reality’ of the industry. Ranveer eventually found his debut film in Band Baaja Baraat after auditioning for the part in the beginning of 2010.
