'When I offered to marry her, it was..' : When the late Satish Kaushik offered to tie the knot with close friend Neena Gupta

His fans and friends from the industry have been remembering him and one such acquaintance was actress Neena Gupta whose association with the actor goes way back from their college days. But did you know that there also came a point when Kaushik had offered to marry Neena?

Yes, you heard that right! In her autobiography titled Sach Kahun Toh, Neena Gupta mentioned how her close friend Satish Kaushik had offered to marry her when she was pregnant with her daughter and fashion designer Masaba Gupta . For the unversed, the Badhaai Ho actress had become pregnant while she was in a relationship with West indies cricketer Viv Richards during the 1980s and had decided to raise the child as a single mother. It was during this time that the Mr. India actor offered to marry her.

Neena Gupta mentioned in her autobiography about the same and jotted down Satish Kaushik’s words by stating, “Don’t worry, if the child is born with dark skin, you can just say it’s mine and we’ll get married. Nobody will suspect a thing.” The Roop Ki Rani Choro Ka Raja actor had confirmed the same in a 2021 interview with Bombay Times saying that he had offered to tie the knot with her out of fondness for her as a dear friend.

Satish Kaushik said, “I used to appreciate the fact that a girl at that time decided to have a child out of wedlock. As a true friend, I simply stood by her and gave her confidence. Whatever you are reading in the memoir, it was all an expression of my affection for her as a friend. I was concerned about not letting her feel alone. At the end of the day, that’s what friends are for, right? As mentioned in the book, when I offered to marry her, it was a mix of humor, concern, respect, and support for my best friend in her time of need.”

Neena took to her social media handle to mourn the loss of her close friend. She said that she woke up to the sad news today (March 9). Neena Gupta was also heard saying that Kaushik was the only one who called her ‘Nancy’ while she called him ‘Kaushikan.’
