When Aamir Khan had 'stolen' Taare Zameen Par from his Dil Chahta Hain co-star Akshaye Khanna

It is not a hidden fact that the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par starring Aamir Khan in the lead role and also directed by him is still hailed as one of the most soul-stirring films on children’s themes. But did you know that the movie was originally meant for Aamir’s Dil Chahta Hain co-star and close friend Akshaye Khanna ? However, it was the ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ himself who was responsible for taking away the coveted film for himself. This was revealed by none other than Akshaye himself in an earlier interview.

A user of Reddit fetched an earlier interview of Akshaye Khanna from Mid-Day wherein he could be saying that Amol Gupte who was the writer of the movie had asked Aamir Khan to recommend Akshaye Khanna his name so that he could approach the actor with Taare Zameen Par’s script. Akshaye added that ‘Aamir being Aamir’ told Amol that he will not be able to recommend someone the script unless he likes it himself. On this, Amol showed Aamir the script of the movie who went on to like it so much that he decided to star and also direct the movie himself.

The Hungama actor also went on to say that on an occasion when he was shooting in a location nearby to Aamir Khan, the latter had come up to him and honestly revealed to him the same. However, Akshaye Khanna said that he had no problems or grievances with the same. But on being asked if he regrets losing out to the movie as an actor, Akshaye admitted that Aamir had done a fabulous job in the movie so it was just destiny’s way of landing the film in Aamir’s hands.

Many of the netizens of Reddit also agreed with Akshaye Khanna’s comments. While many users agreed that the Ittefaq actor is criminally underrated in Bollywood, they also felt that Aamir Khan was much more organic with the kids in Taare Zameen Par. On the work front, Akshaye is all set to entice the audience as an additional star cast of the movie Drishyam 2 .
