Poonam Pandey’s death hoax has been creating a lot of uproar on social media and across the entire entertainment fraternity. While the majority of the netizens have been hurling brickbats at the actress for the same, there also have been some people who have been supporting her on this. Now, the marketing and ad agency that joined hands with Pandey on this cervical cancer awareness campaign has issued a statement. While they have confessed to collaborating with the actress and apologized for triggering people, they have also on the other hand explained why the cause of the campaign was important.
The agency in its statement said that the sole motive for this campaign was to spread awareness about cervical cancer which still majority of the population was unaware of. They added how the Nasha actress’ mother has also battled cancer so she knows the challenges of battling a disease like cancer. They went on to say how there was no curiosity about cancer even after the Finance Minister Of India mentioned it during the Union Budget. But right after Poonam’s actions, cervical cancer became one of the top Google searches and trends.
They showcased some of the positive reactions that they got through the campaign and acknowledged that it indeed got a positive response. However, the backlash post this statement only intensified further. One of the netizens stated, “Showing google metrics for a to justify a cheap act, you can do better.” A user added, “This sounds more like a defensive statement than an apology.” A netizen said, “Also, the audacity to claim that our campaign is more impactful than Finance Ministers statement.” A user said, “The problem is when an agency of your stature does something like that, it sends a really bad message to all the aspiring marketers out there. Many will try and mimic this, and end up making a mockery out of something as sacred as death.”

According to some reports, along with the excessive backlash, Poonam might also have to face some legal actions. She might face an imprisonment of 5 years. Not only this but the actress might be fined Rs 10 lakh.
