The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri given Y category security cover in light of perceived threats

Filmmaker VIviek Agnihotri has been granted Y-category security cover by the centre a week after the release of his film the Kashmir Files. The director will be accompanied by CRPF personnel for security across the country in light of the threats he has been receiving after release of his film.
As a part of the Y-category security cover, Vivek Agnihotri will be accompanied by eight officers including two commandos. Central Intelligence agencies are said to have perceived the threat and recommended the security cover according to reports.
The filmmaker has spent the past few weeks promoting the film across the country. He also met PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi in the light of his film’s release. Both ministers have endorsed his film which is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990.
The Kashmir Files which highlights the atrocities and brutalities faced by the Kashmiri Pandits has sparked major debates on social media and in the political sphere.
The film starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Darshan Kuamr has been doing exceedingly well at the box office and has crossed the 100 crore mark at the worldwide box office with nearly Rs. 97 crores of collections coming from the domestic box office in a week.
Vivek Agnihotri had allegedly been getting threats to his life even prior to the release of the movie and the filmmaker also briefly went off Twitter in light of these threats.
Despite petitions in courts to prevent the release of the film, The Kashmir Files arrived in cinemas on March 11.The movie which initially opened in 630 theatres is now running in 4000 screens across the country.
