For all those who are still ‘Stree-ling’ we mean… reeling under the effect of Stree 2, let us tell you that, the film’s predecessor Stree was the ‘smallest budget possible’, whose makers dared to go into theatres ‘without a formula’. The same was revealed by the makers of Stree in a long post on social media, wherein they walked the roads of nostalgia and gave out some of the most interesting titbits.

I watched the rain lashing outside my window. I could see our film, A Gentleman, that released yesterday, wash away... literally.
We knew what was coming! Two back-to-back studio films failed… Typically, this of… pic.twitter.com/jb3dTzkTC8
In a social media post, the famed film director duo Raj and DK almost poured their hearts out. They started off saying, when two of their back-to-back studio films failed almost meant the end of a filmmaking career. They added that they wanted to make original films, unique films, not the packaged kind and that they wanted to push genres and also wanted to make each film different from the other.
That’s why and when Raj d out on a blank page ‘O Stree, Kal Aana!’ whereby he dug into one of his lasting childhood visuals, which was about every other wall in his hometown Tirupati, covered with the scribbling, ‘O Stree, repu raa..’. They added that, while nobody knew what the story behind that was, all they knew was a strange urban legend that a scary stree would come into their house if they did not write that.
That’s when they came up with the idea of gender reversal, wherein what if men were the ones afraid to go out late at night! He added that, while they had already explored the combination of horror and comedy with Go Goa Gone, they were looking to delve into a more grounded, frightening folktale with a deeper message.
What followed after that were three weeks of wholesome brainstorming on script at a Mumbai based coffee shop and nothing else! This, then, paved the way to ‘a ridiculous story, defying all odds, which became a phenomenon’.

The filmmaker duo Raj and DK summed up their emotional note stating, ‘It wouldn’t have been possible without that little coffeeshop, the failures, the hardships, the amazing two-decade-old friendships, and the firm belief that even our kind of stories can break mainstream norms. I guess every failure is an opportunity to grow. And every heartbreak is a chance to cleanse and recreate. Thank you, wholeheartedly, for everyone who backed us, believed in us and loved our stories!’.
As for Stree 2, the film is doing great business at the box office and stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee in the leading roles. The film is now all set to touch the magical Rs. 500 crore club.
