Stree 2: Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer breaks KGF: Chapter 2’s box office record

Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer horror-comedy film Stree 2 has shattered records by becoming the biggest opener of 2024. Now, the film has crossed the Rs 440-crore mark at the domestic box office, surpassing KGF: Chapter 2's record collection which is Rs 435 crore. The Jayprad Desai-directed film crossed the Rs 600-crore mark globally on August 27 and is expected to cross the Rs 500-crore mark domestically in the third week of its release.

Stree 2 box office collection

After becoming one of the blockbuster films of 2024, the horror-comedy film Stree 2 has crossed the collections of Yash-starrer KGF: Chapter 2. The Yash-starrer film, which was released in 2022, earned Rs 435 crore at the domestic box office.

According to reports by Sacnilk.com, on August 28 (day 13), Stree 2 earned Rs 9.25 crore but managed to get the total earnings to Rs 445 crore at the domestic box office. The film has already crossed the Rs 600-crore mark worldwide on August 27 and ranks 6th on the list of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. The film is expected to enter the Rs 500 crore soon.

Speaking about the third week of Stree 2, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his social media and wrote, “Stree2 is on track to become the first #Hindi film of 2024 to cross the Rs 500 cr mark, cementing its status as an ALL-TIME BLOCKBUSTER. [Week 2] Fri 19.30 cr, Sat 33.80 cr, Sun 40.75 cr, Mon 20.20 cr, Tue 12.25 cr. Total: ₹ 434.10 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice."

After crossing the Rs 500-crore mark at the domestic box office, Stree 2 will be competing with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which earned Rs 505 crore, then SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus film, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion with total earnings of Rs 511 crore at the box office. It will then compete with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, that collected Rs 524 crore and Rs 525 crore, respectively. The highest-grossing Hindi film of all time is Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which collected Rs 584 crore at the domestic box office.

The film became a box office success even after facing a clash with Akshay Kumar-starrer Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa.
