S.S. Rajamouli has begun his global domination with RRR and just won his first big international recognition for the Ram Charan and Jr. NTR led film. The filmmaker won Best Director at the prestigious New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) Awards and it a big indicator of the fact that RRR has just begun.
After emerging as a globally recognised blockbuster, S.S. Rajamouli is busy campaigning for the RRR’s Oscars nomination despite the film not making the cut as India’s official entry. While big hopes are pinned on the project, S.S. Rajamouli’s getting acknowledged at the New York Film Critics Circle awards indicates that he has high chances of winning Best Director at the Oscars 2023 for RRR.
Pointing to the fact, is Major star Adivi Sesh ’s tweet about how 16 out of 22 times in the past years, the director who won at the New York Film Critics Circle awards was the one to pick up Best Director trophy at the Oscars.
The actor wrote, “Did I just hear that @ssrajamouli sir won the New York Film Critics Award? Someone told me 16 out of last 22 times, the winner went on to win Best Director at the Oscars ❤️What a man. What a journey. He truly is the Pride of our Nation 🙏🏼#RRRMovie.”

In 2021, Jane Campion who won Best Director for The Power of the Dog at the Academy Awards was also the winner of Best Director at NYFCC before Rajamouli. So were former Academy Award winners Chloé Zhao, Alfonso Cuarón, Barry Jenkins among others.
S.S. Rajamouli is being hailed for his vision across the globe with RRR and his peers in India are certainly swelling with pride. Alia Bhatt who was also part of RRR shared the news of the filmmaker’s first international win with a heart.
