It’s always said that every film has a destiny of its own. There have been many examples of films which may not have done even average business while it was released, but eventually went onto become all time blockbusters of Bollywood. These days what one sees is that many of the films are being re-released. And irrespective of the box office performance of these films when it had been released, these films are really doing great after it got re-released.
The Sohum Shah starrer Tumbad is one such film. When it had been released, it had met with critical acclaim from many. Besides the stellar performances by the leading actors, it was also the film’s premise that made the film sail its way to success. One of the major elements which contributed towards the film’s success was its super strong word of mouth.

For all those who were wanting the film to have its sequel, here is the good news for you! The multi-talented Sohum Shah, who happens to be the film’s director and actor told in a media statement that Tumbbad had been a special journey and a labour of love for him and his team and to see the love it continues to receive was overwhelming and only ratified their belief and ethos of Sohum Shah Films, that content is king.
He added that, with Tumbbad 2, he and his team wanted to push the cinematic experience and boundaries even further and that Tumbbad 2 would be taking the audiences deeper into the world they had created, with bigger twists and a more intense exploration of what happens when greed knows no limits.
For the unversed, the re-release of the film Tumbbad had a voiceover that stated, ‘Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh phir laut ke aayega… darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega. Pralay, Pralay phir aayega’. For the unversed, the voiceover was given by none other than Sohum Shah himself!
