Sivakarthikeyan is all set to play the role of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer, in his biopic Amaran. As the film nears its release date, leading man Sivakarthikeyan opened up about playing the character and the impact it had on him.

During the recent SIIMA Awards ceremony, the actor was awarded Best Actor (Critics) for his role in the 2023 film Maaveeran. In his acceptance speech, he spoke at length about the struggles endured by army personnel. He shared that although he initially found it extremely challenging to take on the role, he came to terms with it after witnessing the hardships faced by soldiers stationed in Kashmir. The Amaran actor said, “I found it challenging to take up the role at first. But when I had the opportunity to spend time with the army personnel in Kashmir for three days and study their lives, I witnessed the struggles they endure, which are far greater than the challenges I faced portraying this role.”
Amaran plot
Amaran narrates the life story and heroic journey of Ashok Chakra awardee Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was martyred during the Qazipathri Operation in Shopian on April 25, 2014. The film is said to be inspired by the non-fiction book India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes, which recounts real-life challenges faced by Indian soldiers during the surgical strikes.

Amaran dubbing completed
Recently, the makers announced that the dubbing work for the film has been completed and the movie is swiftly moving into post-production. Although the team has yet to release any teasers or trailers, promotional activities are expected to begin soon, with singles from the film expected to drop shortly. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the film is set to hit theaters on October 31, 2024.

As previously announced, the film’s streaming rights have been acquired by Netflix and will be available on the platform after its theatrical run. It is produced under Kamal Haasan’s banner, Raaj Kamal Films International.
