Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has never failed to speak her mind. The actress, who was last seen in Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher starrer-Ghoomer, has responded to the horrific Kolkata rape and murder case. After celebrities such as Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar expressed their disappointment and anger over the case, Shabana urged the citizens of the county to stop treating women as commodities and to dismantle patriarchy.

After attending an event in Pune recently, Shabana spoke about the rape and death of the trainee doctor in Kolkata and said that such incidents are extremely dangerous. She added that it is embarrassing that these kinds of heinous acts have not been reduced despite the formation of the Justice Verma Committee back in 2012 during the Nirbhaya case.
In her statement, Shabana also urged the citizens of the country to stop treating women as commodities and to start dismantling patriarchy which is deep-rooted in us.
Shabana was recently seen in movies such as Ghoomer, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, What's Love Got to Do with It? and Kaali Khuhi.

Bollywood celebrities have also been raising concerns about women's safety ever since the heinous incident was reported.
Recently Emergency actress Kangana Ranaut said that if the men in the family were asked to sit inside the house after a certain time, then all the girls would walk freely in the world.
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana had earlier penned a heart-wrenching poem based on women’s fear and pain in society, while actress Alia Bhatt raised questions about women’s safety in India. Filmmaker Karan Johar called this incident the biggest human failure. Actor Hrithik Roshan, on the other hand, urged the citizens to evolve into a society where everyone feels safe. Actress Kalki Koechlin too said that the spotlight should be on the men who are committing the crime.
Earlier this month, a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The case has led to widespread protests all across the country, with the protesters demanding severe punishment for the accused.
