Today, actress Smantha Ruth Prabhu took to social media and shared sad news about the loss of her father Joseph Prabhu.
Only recently, in an interview with Galatta India, The Citadel: Honey Bunny actress had shocked everyone when she had revealed that her bonding with her father Joseph Prabhu was always strained. Not just that, she had also (in the same interview) revealed that her father Joseph Prabhu used to doubt her capabilities during her growing up years (esp. childhood).
She added that, because of this, it had deeply affected her personality and also made her unsure about her self-worth. In the same interview, Samantha Ruth Prabhu had also spoken about how her father Joseph Prabhu’s opinions had shaped her.
She also added that she always had to fight for his validation as he thought she was never good enough. At this, she said that, “All my life growing up, I had to fight for validation. My father was kind of like… I think most Indian parents are like that. They think they’re protecting you. He told me, ‘You’re not that smart.” This is just the standard of Indian education. That’s why even you can get a first rank. When you say that to a child, I believed for the longest time that I’m not smart or good enough.”
In the same interview, she had added that, when Ye Maaya Chesave became a blockbuster hit, which had many people praising her, she did not know how to accept it. As she was not used to it. In the same breath, she had added that, “success does two things: either you think you’re invincible, or you feel undeserving of the love and praise you get. For me, it was the latter. I was scared people would wake up and realize I’m not all that talented or cool. I kept pushing myself to be better, to look better, to feel worthy of the admiration”.
