Well known actor Sumit Kaul, who is best known for his impactful performances in shows like Tanaav and also films such as Haamid and Laila Majnu, is currently capturing the attention of the audiences as Girgit Raj in the famous serial Tenali Rama on SAB TV. The show, which has been warmly received in its initial weeks, brings a fresh twist to the classic tale with a larger-than-life antagonist—a novelty that adds to its appeal.
When asked about his character, Sumit exclusively told Desimartini, “The original Tenali Rama didn’t feature such an elaborate antagonist. So, Girgit Raj brings a new dimension to the story. The writing for my character is detailed, giving me ample opportunities as an actor to explore his various facets. I hope this continues as the show progresses.”
While acknowledging the demands of a daily soap, which airs six days a week, he said, “To keep the audience engaged, there has to be constant conflict and drama in the characters’ lives. It’s an essential part of daily soap writing,”
But, what about balancing his professional and personal life? Well… the actor stated, “Managing private life and work is always about making choices based on priorities. If career and ambition take precedence, personal life will inevitably take a backseat. But I try to maintain a balance as much as possible”.
This New Year, while Sumit plans to focus more on his holistic well-being, he said, “Physical, mental, and spiritual health is the reservoir I draw from when I perform. This year, I want to prioritize that while continuing to take on challenging roles across different mediums”.
In addition to his professional ambitions, Sumit intends to spend more time with his family and explore new destinations. “Traveling and experiencing the world with my loved ones is something I deeply value. It enriches me personally and professionally,” he adds. With Tenali Rama off to a promising start and Sumit Kaul’s compelling portrayal of Girgit Raj, it seems that the audiences can now look forward to more captivating performances from Sumit Kaul.
