On Day 2, in the Women's 10m Air Rifle individual qualification round, Ramita Jindal went to the final, while Elavenil Valarivan was eliminated. In excellent form, PV Sindhu began her quest for a third consecutive Olympic medal with a dominant performance against FN Abdul Razzaq, winning 21-9, 21-6 in less than 30 minutes.
In rowing, Balraj Panwar finished second in his repechage in the men's singles sculls, qualifying for the quarterfinals. Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen began her women's 50kg campaign with a 5-0 victory over Maxi Carina of Germany.
Dhinidhi Desinghu, a 14-year-old Indian swimmer, performed admirably in the women's 200m freestyle event. She raced the fastest time in the heat, 2:06.96. However, more was needed to earn a spot in the top-16 overall, as only the top-16 go to the semi-finals. She was ranked 23rd overall.
The other Indian swimmer Srihari Natraj, finished second in the men's 100m backstroke heat. His time of 55.01 was insufficient to qualify for the semi-finals. Only the top 16 from each of the six heat races advanced and he placed 33rd overall.
