Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh to star in Imtiaz Ali's Amar Singh Chamkila biopic, shooting begins in October

There was a lot of buzz surrounding the ace filmmaker Imtiaz Ali ’s ambitious project which is touted to be a biopic on the controversial late singer Amar Singh Chamkila . Now, reportedly, it has been revealed that Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra will be headlining the project. Not only that but the shooting for the same will begin in October this year.

According to a news report in Etimes, the Amar Singh Chamkila biopic will see its pre-production go on floors by the end of September after which the filming will begin in October. Imtiaz Ali revealed the same to the publication at the Khidkiyaan Film Festival. The Tamasha director said, “The film will go on the floor in October.''

Talking about Amar Singh Chamkila, the Punjabi singer and his wife Amarjot were shot dead on March 8 in the year 1988 by unidentified assassins. The gunmen had also killed the couple’s musical band members but the case remains unresolved till now. Chamkila was touted to be one of the best live stage performers and his music was extremely popular amongst the village folk. However, he often invited controversies through the lyrics of his songs which spoke of extra-marital affairs, drugs, alcoholism, and the angry tempers of Punjabi men. It can be assumed that while Diljit Dosanjh might step into the shoes of Amar Singh, Parineeti Chopra may be playing the role of his wife.

Meanwhile, talking about Imtiaz Ali, his web series She has also been streaming on Netflix with its second season. The Rockstar director has also bankrolled the show, Thai Massage . Actor Kartik Aaryan was also spotted outside the filmmaker’s office which had sparked speculations that the two might be collaborating for another project after their last film Love Aaj Kal (2020). At the film festival, Imtiaz also revealed that his daughter Ida will also be turning a director soon.
