Pankaj Udhas' funeral
Legendary singer Pankaj Udhas passed away yesterday (February 26) after a prolonged illness. His death came as a rude shock and gloom to the entire film and music industry. The singer was laid to rest with full state honours today. Many stalwarts of the music industry like Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain paid tribute to Udhas.
The pictures and videos show the funeral procession of Pankaj Udhas being adorned with flowers with a picture of him in the center. His mortal remains were wrapped in the colours of the Indian tri-colour flag. One of the videos shows his daughter Reva Udhas breaking down while greeting the guests who were gracing the funeral. In another video, Shankar Mahadevan can be seen praising the Udhas. The ‘Breathless’ singer calls the late singer a gentle soul and a thorough gentleman who paved the way for Ghazal in the music industry. Zakir Hussain also remembered the ‘Rishta Tera Mera’ singer and also expressed his love for his family.

Earlier, Pankaj Udhas’ daughter Naayab Udhas had shared a statement that said, “In loving memory of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas. With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of his demise on the 26 of February 2024 due to a prolonged illness. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 27, from 3 to 5 pm. Venue: Hindu Crematorium. Worli (Mumbai) Landmark Opp. Four Seasons: Dr E Muses Rd. Worli. The Udhas Family (sic).” Condolences have been pouring in for the music maestro from all across the country. Many fans are marking his demise as the end of an era in the music industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the singer by stating, “We mourn the loss of Pankaj Udhas Ji, whose singing conveyed a range of emotions and whose Ghazals spoke directly to the soul. He was a beacon of Indian music, whose melodies transcended generations. I recall my various interactions with him over the years. His departure leaves a void in the music world that can never be filled. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
