Actor Bobby Deol has once again spoken about not featuring in Imtiaz Ali ’s Jab We Met opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan. The actor revealed that the director had first approached him for the part, but later dropped him for some undisclosed reasons.
For the unversed, Jab We Met is the 2007 romantic comedy film written and directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Dhilin Mehta. The film stars Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor , Tarun Arora, Dara Singh, Pavan Malhotra, and Saumya Tandon in prominent roles. The film became a hit at the Indian box office as well as overseas.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama , when Bobby was asked if he was supposed to be in Jab We Met, he said, “It's an old story now, I spoke about it years back. I have let bygones be bygones. Is industry me ye hota rehta hai(Such things happen in the industry all the time). Yes, I was supposed to do the film, I was working with, I don’t want to repeat myself because Imtiaz is sweetheart. It's just when opportunities don’t come your way, then you have to make decisions. I think he had to decide to not take me because all the people are approached for it, the same people who did the film, but I wasn’t in it.”
However, the Barsaat actor had earlier revealed the reason behind not landing Imtiaz’s movie in an old interview. He had said that Kareena had convinced the director to sign her then-boyfriend Shahid Kapoor for the part. "I read that Ashtavinayak has signed Imtiaz for Jab We Met and Kareena is doing the film! And she had gotten her then-boyfriend, Shahid Kapoor to act opposite her. I was like, wow. Quite an industry.” he told Huffpost in 2017 interview.
Further, he also revealed that he was going to be part of Imtiaz’s 2014 Highway too.
“We were also to do Highway together but he again did his own thing. But I have no hard feelings against him. He is a great director and doing so well. We're still friends. But I always tell him: 'Imtiaz, I won't watch any of your films until you make one with me. That'll be your best film." To note, Highway featured Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Bobby is gearing up for the release of the upcoming third season of his crime suspense drama, Aashram 3. It is slated to stream on MX player on June 3.
