Nimrat Kaur has put into words her 10 month long journey of ‘sizing up’ for her role as Bimla Devi in her recently released film Dasvi. The actress has revealed how despite being petrified initially, she eventually learnt how to embrace her new body but unfortunately many around her couldn’t.
The actress whose performance in Dasvi as a housewife turned Chief Minister has come to be highly appreciated, has now shared how in order to gain the required weight she began to indulge in a high calorie diet. However, Nimrat shares her journey wasn’t about learning how to come to terms with her own body.
“Initially, I was rather petrified of an unseen reality I was going to have to own and embrace. But as I steadily and lovingly along with the support and encouragement of my loved ones around me began the right conversations with myself, I began relishing the process of becoming Bimla,” the actress wrote in her long note shared on Instagram.
“However, this isn't about how I eventually began to love this gift of a journey of indulgences and inhabiting a body I'd never been in before,” she continued.
Nimrat highlighted how people totally unaware of her reasons behind gaining the weight did cast a judgemental eye in her direction for the weight she was putting on.
“Ever so often, watching me eat high calorie meals already being a few sizes bigger, some people around me felt they had the right to comment on what they thought I was doing wrong. It would be a snide remark, an uncalled-for joke or simply an unsolicited piece of advice on what I should be eating instead of a dessert I was enjoying very much. This voyeuristic license and entitled permission is what came to the forefront,” Nimrat shared.
The actress shares that on occasion she’d share with people the reason behind her indulgence or weight gain but couldn’t help but notice how people would make her body or the food she ate their business. While she was gaining weight, Nimrat ponders on the perfectly good other reasons behind her weight gain and says, “I could've been unwell, under medication, hormonally battling something, or quite simply very happy to eat and be me whatever size that was.”
The Dasvi actress asked people to be sensitive and mind their own business especially people who view the world with a myopic view and expect people they meet certain norms.
