The Abhimanyu Dassani starrer Nikamma hit the big screens on Friday (June 17) and was being touted as an out-and-out masala entertainer. However, despite the commercial factor, the film has opened to a lackluster response and has just earned Rs 51 lakh on its first day. The movie also stars Shilpa Shetty and Shirley Setia in the lead roles.
Talking about the same, the opening collections of Nikamma is amounting to only Rs 51 lakh. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh stated that the movie has got a slight push at the mass centers but is not doing well in the metros. He further added that the next 2 days are important for the movie.

Taran Adarsh’s tweet read, “#Nikamma is below par on Day 1, but the biz got a push, post evening, at mass centers, while metros remained weak... Day 2 and 3 are crucial, need to salvage the situation... Fri ₹ 51 lacs. #India biz.” Take a look at the same.

Nikamma has also opened to negative reviews from critics and fans alike. The fans are not enamored by the over-the-top performances and the illogical screenplay. The movie has been helmed by Sabbir Khan and marks Abhimanyu Dassani’s first venture into the commercial space. It is also facing tough competition from Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which is continuing its winning streak. Plus, Kamal Haasan ’s Vikram and Adivi Sesh’s Major are also doing well at the box office which might further negatively affect the movie.
Desimartini’s review for Nikamma read, “Director Sabbir Khan who has churned out films like Heropanti (2014) and Baaghi (2016) before this, once again tried to bring in the masala-action formula on celluloid but for that, at least one needs to have the basic synchronization of the screenplay, performance and dialogue delivery in place. Nikamma severely suffers in all aspects. If the loud, over-the-top, and cringe introduction and character development of the lead protagonist were not enough, the movie massively falters in the inculcation of even the most basic common sense and logic in all of its subplots. Be it Abhimanyu Dassani’s Adi explaining to the baddies why he won’t burn due to the LPG gas leakage or Shilpa Shetty’s Avni suddenly turning out to be a cop, in the end, you just find the chain of events and the dialogues bizarre and exasperating.”
