L2 Empuraan: Composer Deepak Dev spills major beans about Mohanlal-Prithviraj film, promises mind-blowing sequences

The most awaited sequel to the blockbuster Malayalam film Lucifer, titled, L2: Empuraan, has been in the works for quite some time. While the Mohanlal-starrer is still under production, Deepak Dev, who is scoring the background music and composing original soundtracks for the film, has recently spilled major details about the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial.

In a radio station interview, the composer revealed that the production quality of the sequel has left him stunned. He also went on to share that while many films incorporate massive stunt sequences, such as car crash scenes, with the help of CGI, Prithviraj has taken it a step further by using real cars to recreate the crashes and other interesting stunt sequences. He said, "I can assure you that the film is beyond what we are expecting – it’s more than a visual treat that Prithviraj is going to offer. Usually, when we see spot-edited footage, we can anticipate the final outcome, but in this case, even the spot-edited material’s color grading is stunning. It almost looks like the final footage – that’s how perfect it is."

He added, "I thought crashing cars would be incorporated through CGI, but here real footage has been used. I asked Prithvi what would happen if retakes were needed, and he said, 'Only if the shots are finalized will we go for the takes; hence, retakes were not required.' It’s mind-blowing, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience this on the big screen soon."

L2: Empuraan shooting update

The team recently wrapped filming an action-packed schedule in Gujarat and will soon fly to Abu Dhabi for the next foreign schedule of the film. The entire filming process of L2: Empuraan is expected to be completed by November 2024.

Planned for a March 2025 release, the film will see Mohanlal return as Stephen Nedumpally, also known as Khureshi Ab'raam. Apart from the lead actor, the film will also feature Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Arjun Das, Sharaf U Dheen, and Shine Tom Chacko in key roles.
