Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar is all set to make his OTT debut with a big-budget web series for Netflix. According to reports, the highly anticipated project will feature a star-studded ensemble of Bollywood actresses. Earlier, Netflix had collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the ambitious female-led web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
Karan Johar’s web series debut
According to reports, Karan has locked the script for his upcoming web series for Netflix and will start directing it in early 2025. No further details have been shared regarding the cast of the series.
The Pinkvilla report revealed that Karan has been working extensively on the project with his team and is excited to venture into the world of OTT. "The web series now begins its casting stage and the idea is to bring together an ensemble of renowned actors. Being a Karan Johar show, the web series is considered to be Netflix's most ambitious upcoming project,” the source added.
Netflix had earlier this year premiered the web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The series is set around the life of courtesans in the pre-Independence era.
"After collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Heeramandi, this Karan Johar directorial is the next marquee project in Netflix's repertoire. Karan will be the showrunner for this yet untitled web series," the source added.
Karan has directed popular films such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham..., Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name Is Khan, Student of the Year, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
