Kamal Haasan's first reaction to Kalki 2898 AD, teases bigger role in part 2: 'Free of embarrassment, communal bias'

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan watched Kalki 2898 AD in Chennai last evening and shared his thoughts about it during a press conference. He also preemptively addressed his brief appearance in the movie while announcing that he has a bigger role to play in Kalki Part 2.
"I just saw Kalki 2898 AD. I only appear for a few minutes in this film. My actual work begins only in part 2. So, I watched the movie like an audience member, with a sense of awe," said Kamal.
Kamal played the main villain, Supreme Yaskin, in Kalki 2898 AD, which heavily takes inspiration from the Indian mythological epic Mahabharata. However, Kamal's appearance is just a cameo, lasting no longer than 10 minutes in a three-hour movie.
"Indian cinema is moving towards global entertainment, and we have seen many signs of that progress in recent times, including Nag Ashwin's Kalki. He has mixed science fiction and mythology and has created a movie that doesn't embarrass him or any member of the cast and crew. The film is also free of any communal overtones; he has done it very cleverly. I have never acted in mythological films. I live among humans. But he has told a very engrossing tale," Kamal praised Nag Ashwin.
Kamal also remarked that Nag Ashwin made Kalki with a lot of passion and patience. Talking about the performance he liked most in Kalki, he revealed he was mighty impressed with Hindi film icon Amitabh Bachchan.
"Watching Amitabh Bachchan confuses me whether to put him under the category of young actors or senior actors. He has performed so well in the movie," he added.
The principal characters in Kalki 2898 AD are modelled on several iconic characters from the Mahabharata. For example, Amitabh Bachchan plays the ancient warrior Ashwatthama. The film's lead star, Prabhas, portrays Bhairava, who is also inspired by a mythological hero.
"This is a movie aimed to entertain kids, and it will appeal to the inner child in everyone, including people with grey hairs. Nag Ashwin has made this film in a unique way while keeping in mind the expectations of mass audiences. I am very happy that I was part of this attempt and will continue this journey with Kalki," he added.
