Kamal Haasan, Shankar reveal new details about Indian 2 during IPL

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan and director Shankar kickstarted the promotions for their upcoming movie Indian 2 on Saturday. The actor-director duo appeared on the IPL broadcast during the CSK vs RCB match and revealed some unknown facts about the project.

Kamal revealed that he agreed to do Indian 2, a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, because Shankar already had the script ready for Indian 3. "It is a big story, and we couldn't tell it within three hours. So it took its own shape and became two parts," Shankar explained.

The director also confirmed that Indian 3 will be released within six months after the release of Indian 2.

Earlier, while talking about the long-drawn production of Indian 2, Kamal had said, "We cannot speed up the production because quality matters. We have completed Indian 2 and Indian 3. Post-production is happening on Indian 2, and we will start the post-production on Indian 3 soon."

In the meantime, the filmmakers have revealed that they are planning a grand audio release event for Indian 2 on June 1. Composer Anirudh Ravichander will also give a live performance at the event, which is likely to see the participation of the who's who of the Indian film industry.

The production of Indian 2 faced many hurdles over the last five years. The movie went on the floors in 2019, but production came to a sudden stop following a freak accident that killed three crew members. The COVID-induced lockdown put the movie in production limbo. However, Kamal scoring a huge commercial success with Vikram turned the tide in favour of Indian 2. Red Giant Movies came on board as the producers and revived the project.

Indian 2 is expected to hit the screens on July 12. An official confirmation on this is awaited.
