Kamal Haasan: 'Indian 2 got a glowing review from censor board'

Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, director Shankar, and actor Siddharth addressed a press conference in Chennai on Saturday to promote their upcoming movie Indian 2.
Kamal recalled a series of unfortunate incidents that occurred during the production of Indian 2, including a freak accident that killed three crew members, the outbreak of the pandemic, and the sudden deaths of cast members Vivek and Nedumudi Venu. "I have never faced so many problems in a single project in my career," said Kamal, who has been working in the Indian film industry for over six decades.

Kamal noted that there were times when he wondered whether all their efforts would translate on the screen as envisioned and also appeal to paying audiences. However, Kamal suggested he was relieved when he found that Indian 2 received a glowing response from the members of the censor board.
"Shankar sent me a text saying that the members of the censor board liked Indian 2 very much. They don't often comment much about the movies they censor because people might think they are biased towards a director. Usually, they keep their opinions to themselves. But, they make an exception for a few films and voluntarily share their thoughts. These films appeal to their humanity," Kamal said.
Shankar noted, "The censor board asked for a few cuts because they felt it was a movie that would be enjoyed by audiences of all age groups and families."
The censor board cleared Indian 2 for public screening with a U/A certificate without any major cuts. The film's runtime is three hours.
Indian 2 is a sequel to the 1996 classic Indian. Kamal reprises the role of Senapathy, an ex-freedom fighter, a devoted follower of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and a knife-wielding vigilante with uncanny fighting skills.
Indian 2 is due in cinemas on July 12.
