Superstar Kamal Haasan expressed his happiness about Kalki 2898 AD emerging as the biggest hit of 2024 in Indian cinema so far. The sci-fi film, drawing inspiration from the Indian epic Mahabharata, has grossed more than Rs 1000 crore from its worldwide ticket sales. The movie continues to outperform others.
"All I like to say is it's a happy moment. I have done about 250-odd films. Yes, one or two may be lazy, but not all get this of attention. So when we do get this attention, we must celebrate it. It's a nebulous state. We don't know what we are doing, but we are so absorbed by it, and we made this," said Kamal.

Kamal plays the main antagonist in the movie, named Supreme Yashkin. He wears unique makeup and nurtures the ambition of amassing superpowers that would make him undefeatable in the universe.
"I looked at the get-up. I could have slipped out of it if I felt uneasy then. But, I got more and more excited as it went on. When the designs came, we went to LA. This was for just one character and this film has 10 characters like this. Some of the biggest stars of India have come together for this film," he added.
Kalki 2898 AD also features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. Kamal appears for less than 10 minutes in a 3-hour long movie.
"The USP is the idea. It's like a game only a child understands. If you stand and see a little child playing with toys, you think it's a game. But when you go down to that level, and the child says, 'I'm cooking, I'm making food for you. Would you like a pudding?' And you nod, and then you are absorbed. You pretend that you are eating the pudding, and you're stuck in the game as much as that little child, who you were ridiculing a few moments back. That's the child we found in Nagi. We both know and admire another child, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. That child should be fostered and preserved by a filmmaker. That somehow, Mr. Nag Ashwin has managed to do," Kamal said, while praising writer and director Nag Ashwin.
