Kamal Haasan about Kottukkaali
Ahead of the grand release of Soori-starrer Kottukkaali, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan has watched the film and heaped high praise on it. In a personal letter to the film’s team, the actor wrote a heartfelt note expressing his views after watching the film. In a letter written in Tamil, Kamal Haasan lauded PS Vinothraj’s poignant storytelling about a woman’s hopes being constrained by society.
The actor also noted that Kottukkaali is a cinematic gem that brings Tamil heritage to life on screen. He said, “Exceptional performances, a compelling storyline, and stunning visuals make this a must-watch for every cinema lover.”

Kamal Haasan praised PS Vinothraj's bold decision to set the film’s runtime to around 1 hour. He emphasized that audiences should be ready to commend such films, as this will contribute to the advancement of Tamil cinema. “Seeing the runtime listed as 103 minutes and 44 seconds immediately makes it clear that Tamil cinema has evolved from its formulaic past into a platform for modern storytelling,” the actor added.
He also mentioned in his letter that the film is something only those with a refined taste in cinema can truly appreciate. “Warning to some: people with poor taste cannot blend into the flow of good modern cinema if they don’t improve themselves soon,” the actor asserted.
Praising the lead actors' performances, the Indian 2 actor said the entire team had managed to deliver an impressive yet rational take on patriarchal society, highlighting that the film is set in a ‘modern village of the 21st century.’
He further praised Sivakarthikeyan for supporting the film and expressed his best wishes to the team.
