Vyjayanthi Movies has reportedly sent legal notices to a select few social media handles that share updates on box office collections of new movies. This move comes amid claims about the producers inflating the collection numbers of Kalki 2898 AD .
Kalki 2898 AD, starring Telugu superstar Prabhas in the lead role, has become the biggest hit of 2024 so far, with its global ticket sales exceeding Rs 1000 crore. However, there were a few individual social media influencers who accused the producers of manipulating the box office numbers to mask the film's commercial failure. In light of these comments, the producers have sued the box office trackers in question, demanding proof and data to substantiate their claims against the collections of Kalki 2898 AD.
It's believed that a handful of individuals with significant social media followings carry out systematic attacks against movies if their producers don't pay them to post favourable reviews. It's alleged that these social media influencers share positive things about a movie, even if it's not good, on account of having received the patronage of its producers.

It seems that Vyjayanthi Movies didn't enlist the services of for-hire social media influencers, who create content in favour of the highest bidder.

Netizens have welcomed this move by the producers of Kalki 2898 AD, hoping this will rein in the unfair targeting of movies by influencers.
The producers have officially confirmed that Kalki 2898 AD has grossed more than Rs 1000 crore globally since its release on June 27. It is the second film in Prabhas' career to have achieved this milestone, following Baahubali 2 in 2017.
Written and directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD was made at a cost of over Rs 600 crore.
