Milind Sonam has finally revealed why he gave up the opportunity to debut with a blockbuster film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander . The super model turned actor, Milind who became an overnight sensation after his debut with Alisha Chinoy’s music video Made In India in 1995, however, as a newcomer Milind had walked out of Aamir Khan led Jo Jeeta Wohi Hi Sikander after completing 75% of the shoot.
The actor was cast in the role which was eventually played by Deepak Tijori in the film. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander was released in 1992 and became a blockbuster at the box office but Milind has no regrets over giving up the opportunity.
In an interview, Milind recalled how he wasn’t given any food on set which led him to throw his bicycle he was supposed to be seen riding in the film and took off to never look back. Talking to Barkha Dutt, Milind said, “I threw my bicycle saying ‘where’s my breakfast?’ They offered me nothing." He further explained, “I was not at home, I was at the mercy of the production for food" while adding that it was a part of the culture of “baad mein khayenge (everyone will eat later)."
Milind, however, was destined to be a star and eventually found his own route to success after having ditched this big film which hardly any newcomer would have dared to do. The incident also finds a mention in Milind’s memoir ‘Made In India’.
Explaining what prompted this behaviour and if there was any regrets he had about leaving the project on a whim after having completed most of the shoot, he said, “It was not important to me at that time. What was important for me was that I should be happy doing what I am doing, and if I am not, then it doesn’t work.”
Well, Milind’s loss became Deepak Tijori’s gain who had auditioned for the role but didn’t initially get the part and as they as, all’s well that ends well.
