Actress Jiah Khan’s suicide case has been pending at the court for its final verdict. The actress was found hanging from the ceiling by her mother, Rabia Khan, on June 3, 2013. It was her purportedly written 6-page letter describing her relationship with Sooraj Pancholi, on the basis of which he was booked for abetment of the suicide. He was arrested by Mumbai Police but later released on bail in July 2013 by Bombay High Court.
Later in 2014, the case was transferred to CBI after Rabia pleaded that her daughter did not die by suicide but because of murder. The investigation agency charged Sooraj with abetment of suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code in 2015 and attached Jiah's letter that narrated her tumultuous relationship with him. The case was then reassigned to a special CBI court in 2021. After hearing the final arguments of both sides, the court will pronounce the verdict tomorrow, i.e. April 28, 2023.
The letter in question had been recovered from Jiah's house after her death. In the letter, the Ghajini actress has poured her heart out and mentioned mental and physical abuse allegedly at the hands of Sooraj. An excerpt of the letter read, “I don't know how to say this to you but I might as well now as I have nothing to lose. I've already lost everything. If you're reading this I might have already left or about to leave. I am broken inside. You may not have known this but you affected me deeply to a point where I lost myself in loving you. Yet you tortured me everyday.”
Jiah also wrote about her abortion in the letter. “I aborted our baby when it hurt me deeply. You destroyed my Christmas and my birthday dinner when I came back. When I tried my hardest to make your birthday special. You chose to be away from me on Valentines Day. You promised me once we made it to one year we would get engaged,” read a part of the letter. Meanwhile, Special CBI Judge AS Sayyad will likely deliver the verdict in the case at 10:30 am tomorrow.
