Ever since The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma hit the screens, it has been sparking controversies. Superstar Kamal Haasan is the latest addition to have passed scathing remarks on the film, which has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office. The actor recently attended the pre-event press conference of the International Indian Film Academy Awards 2023 where he was asked to react to the success of the film.
"I told you, it's propagandist films that I am against. It's not enough if you write 'true story' just at the bottom as a logo. It has to really be true and that is not true," said the actor-politician on The Kerala Story. The actor is currently in Abu Dhabi to reportedly receive the 'IIFA Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema' award at the event for his contribution to elevating Indian cinema on a global level.

Soon after his video surfaced, Twitterati slammed him for calling the film propaganda. One user wrote, “Stop ur nonsense propaganda... Mr Kamal” Another trolled him, “What you are saying is an insult to those who went through the ordeal and some of them did come out in public too. We all know your double standards.” “What abt Hey Ram film it is true or fiction? As a filmmaker everybody has his own style of making so do not degrade other work since u r in politics?” read a comment.
The Kerala Story, directed by Sudipto Sen, highlights the unchecked radicalization and conversion of young Hindu girls in Kerala and later deployed for terrorist activities by ISIS. The film was released in cinemas on May 5, 2023. Meanwhile, Kamal was last seen in Vikram. He will next be seen in Indian 2, a sequel to the 1996 film of the same name. Directed by S. Shankar, the film also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Gulshan Grover, Siddharth and Rakul Preet Singh in key roles.
