For those who grew up cherishing the golden era of the late 80s and early 90s, the name Shanthi Priya evokes a flood of memories. Her luminous screen presence and unforgettable performances made her a beloved actress of her time. After 31 years, Shanthi Priya has now returned to the spotlight with the highly anticipated film Bad Girl.
In an exclusive interview with Desimartini, Shanti Priya speaks about her comeback film ‘Bad Girl’ amongst other things.
To start with, how would you describe the Bad Girl experience?
Honestly, I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of Bad Girl. This film has given me an immense scope to explore myself as an actor. It’s a blessing to work with such amazing creators like Vetrimaaran sir, Varsha, and Anurag sir. Every character I’ve portrayed has left a piece of itself in me, and this one is no different

The film has been directed by the very talented Varsha and has been produced by Vetrimaaran. One needs to wait and watch the film to experience the powerful presentation by Anurag Kashyap. The term mind blowing is just not an exaggeration for the same. The film ‘Bad Girl’, has now become a testament to the timeless allure of my acting skills.
The film is also making waves at the prestigious Rotterdam International Film Festival. What was your first reaction for the same?
Oh! Is it? Wow! That’s amazing and was news to me too. When I first heard it, I felt extremely overwhelmed and truly grateful for the love of my fans and the blessings of God. Back then, I worked with the best filmmakers, and today, I feel destiny has given me the same privilege again.
How was it to represent Bad Girl on an international stage like Rotterdam International Film Festival?
Representing Bad Girl on an international stage was not just an honour but a deeply emotional experience for me. However, it’s the entire team that deserves credit. From Varsha to Vetrimaaran sir, Anurag sir, my co-actors Anjali and others, and especially the technicians—without them, this film would never have come to life.
