Haasan recently revealed that he was more excited for Indian 3, the third installment in the Indian franchise. The Ulaganayagan also said that he signed Indian 2 because the third installment impressed him a lot.
This statement did not sit well with fans, who criticised the actor for not promoting Indian 2, which is already struggling to generate pre-release hype among audiences due to its mediocre music and underwhelming trailer.

During a pre-release event, actor Siddharth requested Kamal Haasan to clarify his statement, which was seemingly ‘misinterpreted’ by netizens. Haasan clarified that although he did not mean to berate the film, he still stands by his statement that Indian 3 is his favourite film in the franchise.

“I've been working with this director (Shankar) for six years without any issues. Just because I liked part three of the film (Indian 3) doesn't mean I didn't like Indian 2. It has also come out very well. However, I have pinned more expectations on Indian 3, and you can't stop that,” the Ulaganayagan said.
He added, “I never asked to make it a three-part movie series when it was all supposed to be one sequel. So don't get angry with me.”
