IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack
Vijay Varma, Patralekhaa, Nasseruddin Shah, and Pankaj Kapur feature in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, the trailer for which has just been released. The thriller drama film is based on the real-life tale of an Indian Airlines aircraft from Kathmandu to Delhi being hijacked in 1999 and taken to Kandahar, Afghanistan, where the hostages were released in exchange for the release of three terrorists.

The makers of Vijay Varma’s upcoming film, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, took to the official Instagram page of Netflix to share the film’s trailer. The trailer begins with Vijay's character being introduced as a pilot of IC 814. One also gets to see the passengers on the flight. The trailer then shows us the events that took place after the flight was hijacked, resulting in chaos among politicians.
The makers captioned the post, “188 onboard, and the entire nation held at gunpoint. Based on true events - IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, a limited series, arrives on August 29, only on Netflix!”

Apart from Vijay, the film also stars Patralekhaa, who plays a flight attendant. Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah and Kumud Mishra also have important roles in the movie. Helmed by Anubhav Sinha, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack will be released on August 29 on Netflix.
The film is about the real-life hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Delhi in 1999 that was rerouted to Kandahar. The aircraft had 188 passengers who were held hostage for seven days. The Indian government had to release three terrorists, including Masood Azhar, to secure the release of the hostages.
Speaking about the film, Abubhav said during a Netflix event, “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is a verisimilar account of that infamous hijack from 1999 inside the aircraft, the War Room back home in Delhi, and the Negotiation Station in Kandahar. This is a story that created unexpected heroes out of the most unprecedented crises. This is a story of those seven days of mayhem, skill, and tact.”
