Ram Charan and Akshay Kumar came together for the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2022 and spoke at length about Indian cinema as we know it in 2022. On stage while Akshay confessed that he wanted to be Bruce Lee while growing up, Ram Charan expressed that he didn’t know how to tell his father and mega star Chiranjeevi that he wanted to be an actor and was pursuing mechanical engineering instead.
RRR star Ram Charan said that though he comes from a family of actors his is a very conservative family. Talking about how his father kept his work life and family life entirely separate, Ram said, “I still remember, if dad was on a cover page or won any awards, it always used to stay in the office and never came to our residence. So, I was very scared, bolna chaiye ki nahi bolna chaiye that I wanted to be an actor because he never entertained a single magazine to come inside. He always had a very normal home, it was not like a celebrity home. At a later stage, he might have kept cinema away from us but cinema was never away from us.”
Akshay, on the contrary, said that his family and his home are quite different in this aspect and despite pushing his son Aarav to watch films, the actor has been unable to get son to get interested. Talking about the same he said, “Mere ghar mein bilkul ulta hai. I want to show him films, I want to tell him about film, he doesn’t want to see films. I want to put him into all that but he just doesn’t want to see anything. He just wants to do his work. He just wants to study and wants to do fashion designing. So there are two ways to doing things, you keep it hidden or you give them so much that they don’t want to do it.”
The Ram Setu star also confessed that he aspired to be Bruce Lee and was so inspired that he would spend hours at the Raj Ghat in New Delhi practicing martial arts. Akshay added that it was a coincidence that he became an actor and always feels that he’s a stuntman first and an actor next.
