Earlier, Vetrimaaran revealed that although the production of Viduthalai Part 2 was completed, he hesitated to release it, feeling that something was missing. He couldn't pinpoint the exact issue but wanted to ensure the film had the necessary elements suitable for its theatrical release.

Earlier this year, Vetrimaaran showcased his director's cut of the film at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where he screened Viduthalai Parts 1 and 2 together. The combined runtime exceeded five hours, and the film received a standing ovation at the festival, indicating that Vetrimaaran may have finally found the missing element to make the sequel a hit with audiences.
Viduthalai, based on a short story by B. Jeyamohan, delves into the brutality and evils of unchecked power. The film, which also stars Soori, follows the deployment of a special task force in a forest area to hunt down a rebel leader threatening corporate investments. In the process, the government turns a blind eye to the atrocities committed by the police, inflicting immense suffering on innocent people.
Viduthalai Part 1 opened to positive reviews and became a big hit at the box office. The sequal is expected to cash in on the popularity of its predecessor and take a big opening.
