Yogita Bihani is currently basking in the success of her recently released film Vikram Vedha . The actress plays Chanda in the film and her performance has been making quite a lot of noise for all the right reasons. Now, in an exclusive interview with Desimartini, Yogita spoke to us briefly about the movie falling under the radar of the Boycott Bollywood brigade and being compared incessantly with its Southern counterpart.
Talking about the same, Yogita Bihani said, “Honestly, when it comes to this word boycott and I'm not only talking about Vikram Vedha, we are very quick to tag this word everywhere just to blame someone. But trust me when you come on a film set, everyone from the dress Dada, spot Dada to the make-up artist, everybody has worked so hard. So when we use this word, we throw all their hard work into the dustbin. A film like this has given financial and creative employment so a lot of process takes place. So when this boycott trend happens and it affects the movie, the production houses will not be able to give employment opportunities to many people. Even during COVID, so many industries especially the hospitality industry went through so much and people were in fact empathizing with all of these industries. So, when you trend to boycott an industry, you not only waste the hard work that goes into the making of the films but also obstructs the employment of so many people. I think we should have an open mind and give everyone an opportunity.”
The actress also spoke about the comparisons between her film with the original South movie which was also helmed by Pushkar-Gayatri. Yogita Bihani said, “When it came to Vikram Vedha, I knew that this is a great film and the same directors are making it. I remember R Madhavan (Vikram from the original film) had come to our sets in Abu Dhabi and I was major crushing on him. When I saw that R Madhavan was seeing my film, I was jumping with joy and all the girls had the Rehna Hain Tere Dil Main theme song playing in their heads (laughs). People then asked him why he didn't do the Hindi version of the movie and he just said, 'Why will I do the same thing again?' Pushkar Gayatri (director) wanted to make the same film in Bollywood and have a little fun with that. You know there is no formula for that perfect film, we don't know what's working and what's not. That's why there is an art that is there for experimenting. Let's not do this.”
Vikram Vedha stars Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. The movie has steadily managed to reach the Rs 50 crore mark at the box office. The original film starred R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles.
