The wonderful Shefali Shah is undoubtedly one of the most versatile performers of the Hindi film industry, who can magnificently play any character given to her. She proved the same once again in her recently released film Jalsa. The film features her as Rukhsana Mohammad, the mother of the victim of a hit and run, and also the caretaker of Vidya Balan ’s son. She won hearts with her performance and what stood out this time is that more than her dialogues the focus was on how powerfully she emoted her character’s feelings through body language and expressions.
In an exclusive chat with Desimartini, Shefali revealed that it was challenging but also a treat for her. She explained, “I love that the most! I love it the most. I’m probably the only actor who goes and tells directors ‘please cut my lines’. But actually I do it. Because I genuinely believe that when you can say something with two words don’t use four. And when you can say something without any words, don’t even use two. We have the luxury of camera that catches the smallest of nuance. And if you can show it, why say it? And a lot of times, what is held back is left to imagination and that is more frightening than when it’s said and spelled out.”

Talking about her role in Jalsa, the actress explained, “Also Rukhsana comes from a place where she cannot be so vocal about what she feels. She comes from a different strata of the society. They don’t have a platform, you know. So I think all of it. But I enjoy that the most. I love it!”
Well, that’s what a real actor is-- one who does not care about the number of lines or screen time given to them and focuses on touching hearts with their acting skills. Hats off to Shefali Shah!
