'Don't want to do caricature villains': Animal star Bobby Deol opens up on selecting negative roles offers

Before Animal, Bobby Deol has mesmerised audiences with his performances in Prakash Jha’s Aashram and Shanker Raman’s Love Hostel. With his masterclass act, he went on to grab several offers in a negative space but ended up doing a few and excelled in those. In the latest media interaction, the actor revealed the idea behind selecting negative characters and emphasised the impact but not the length of the roles

“I like to see heroism in the negative characters I play. I don’t like to caricature villains. I have been offered some really big films as a villain and I said no to them because I didn’t want to be on set just because it is a big film. For me it’s not the length of the role, it’s always that meat in the role that attracts me. Because when I used to watch films, some characters remained in my mind, even when I used to watch Papa’s (Dharmendra) films. So I wanted to do those characters, and slowly I got lucky and I got such characters,” he told Pinkvilla.

Bobby recently also broke the silence on his less screen time in Animal. He said that he knew he had only 15 days of work and wouldn't be there throughout the movie. But he is quite surprised and satisfied with the kind of reaction he has got. "People have loved the character so much that there should be a spin-off. It is so encouraging that people appreciate your work and they want to see more of you, playing that character. It feels good," he told PTI.

Meanwhile, Bobby played a mute antagonist Abrar Haque in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, while Triptii Dimri, Saurabh Sachdev, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra, and Suresh Oberoi feature in key roles. The film has amassed Rs 481 crore worldwide ever since it was released on December 1, 2023 in theatres.
