Ayyappanum Koshiyum served as inspiration for Lubber Pandhu
Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh’s latest cricket-based drama Lubber Pandhu has been making huge waves at the box office and has also garnered massive appreciation from audiences and critics alike.
Although fans have been intrigued by debutant filmmaker Tamizharasan Pachamuthu’s ability to write such fascinating lead characters, the director recently revealed his inspiration behind writing Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh’s characters in the film.
Tamizharasan Pachamuthu talks about Lubber Pandhu
In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Tamizharasan revealed that although the story was inspired by certain parts of his life, the lead characters were inspired by the 2020 critically acclaimed Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum. For the unversed, Ayyappanum Koshiyum starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon, was directed by late filmmaker Sachy.
Tamizharasan said, “I really like Ayyappanum Koshiyum and the way the characters are written. Biju Menon’s character and his wife’s character in the film struck a chord with me. I didn’t want to make a film with a similar storyline, but I wanted to create something akin to those characters.”
He added, “I have knowledge of both cinema and cricket, so I thought, why not incorporate those character traits for this film’s lead roles as well?”
For context, Lubber Pandhu revolves around Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh’s characters, who are great cricketers in their town. However, an ego clash ensues between the two characters, which forms the crux of the story.
Harish Kalyan is on cloud nine after the success of Lubber Pandhu
At the recent success meet for Lubber Pandhu, leading man Harish Kalyan opened up about the happiness he has been experiencing following the overwhelming responses from theaters. Calling director Tamizharasan "his own brother", the actor expressed his joy over the success of the film. He also thanked the fans for their constant support and promised to deliver even more worthwhile performances in the future.
Bankrolled by Prince Pictures, Lubber Pandhu stars Harish Kalyan, Attakathi Dinesh, Swasika, and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy in key roles.
