It was earlier reported that Deepika Padukone has been roped into playing an important role in the third season of the acclaimed HBO comedy limited series The White Lotus. After the success of the first two seasons, it was renewed for a third season in November 2022. However, disappointing news might be underway for all the fans of the actress out there.
According to a news report in Bollywood Hungama, Deepika might be opting out of the series. For the unversed, the third season of The White Lotus is all set to be shot in Thailand and will premiere in 2025. A close friend of the Om Shanti Om actress revealed to the publication that she chose to get out of the project for personal reasons. However, there has been no confirmation of the same.
The rumours of the actress joining the star cast of The White Lotus started doing the rounds when her Fighter director Siddharth Anand almost confirmed the same in a press interview while promoting their movie. Siddharth said, “Lotus 3… where’s now space? Lotus 3 is coming.” Deepika tried to dodge the revelation by telling Siddharth that she would like to star in the sequel of Fighter. However, the filmmaker added, “Kaise karenge? Abhi Fighter 2 band kara di aapne, Lotus 3 kar rahi hain, pata nahi kya kya kar rahin hain… White Lotus 3.”
Apart from this, the speculations furthermore spread after a Reddit user shared a screenshot of Deepika’s mother-in-law Anju Bhavnani liking the news articles about her starring in The White Lotus. The actress’ last Hollywood project was XXX: Return Of Xander Cage opposite Vin Diesel. On the work front, she also has the pan-India film Kalki 2898 AD opposite Prabhas. She furthermore has the Hindi adaptation of The Intern alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
