Cirkus star Ranveer Singh wants Varun Dhawan to not star in the 90s hit Raja Babu remake, here's why

Ranveer Singh is all set to feature in the dual role in the upcoming comedy-drama, Cirkus directed by Rohit Shetty. Though, he recently confessed playing two characters was a huge challenge, he got nostalgic about the 90s double role films at the same time. Amid this, he revealed that he already told fellow actor Varun Dhawan to reserve the remake of Raja Babu for him. For those unversed, Varun has already been featured in the remake of his daddy David Dhawan’s movies-Coolie No.1 and Judwaa.
The Jayeshbhai Jordaar actor is on a promotional spree for Cirkus with Rohit Shetty and an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandes, Varun Sharma, Johnny Lever, and Sanjay Mishra, among others. In a recent interview, he opened up about his favorite 90s movies Judwaa and Raja Babu which starred Govinda in the lead role. On the sidelines of discussing the double roles in the 90s era, he said, “Judwaa is another favorite film of mine alongside Raja Babu. I have seen these movies the maximum number of times. And what music!” He further added, “Varun (Dhawan) keeps doing these movies man, and I keep telling him, ‘Kuch Bhi Karna, Raja Babu maat karna’ (I want to do it),” he told Pinkvilla.

The 1994 film Raja Babu revolves around an orphan, who is adopted by a rich village couple. Later, he falls in love with a city girl but she dumps him after learning that he is not as educated as he portrays himself to be. The award-winning movie stars Karisma Kapoor as the female lead. Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, Aruna Irani, and Gulshan Grover are in the supporting roles.
Talking about the challenges of playing the double role, Ranveer said that just because Cirkus is a comedy of errors, he had to tread a fine balance. Meanwhile, Cirkus marks the third collaboration of Ranveer with Rohit Shetty after Simmba and a cameo in Sooryavanshi. The film also has Deepika Padukone in a special appearance. The film is slated to hit theatres on December 23.
