Bollywood beauty Bipasha Basu turned 45 on 7th January this year. Ahead of her birthday, the actress jetted off to Maldives to celebrate her big day with the two most special people in her life– her husband Karan Singh Grover and their daughter Devi Basu Singh Grover. As they geared up to ring in her birthday in style, Bipasha and Karan shared several pictures on social media exploring the beaches with their darling daughter. They seem to be having a good time. However, several netizens are not too glad about Bipasha and Karan’s holiday amid the current Maldives row.
As most of you know, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Lakshadweep and posted pictures from his trip to the beautiful holiday destination. This was followed by a tweet by Maldives minister Abdulla Mahzoom Majid who accused this post as a target to Maldives. What escalated the row was Maldives minister Mariyam Shiuna’s nasty tweet where words such as ‘clown’ and ‘puppet’ were used for our Prime Minister. Several celebs from Bollywood came out in PM’s support and soon ‘Boycott Maldives’ became a trend on Twitter. Bipasha is now being trolled for traveling to Maldives during this controversy which has taken the internet by storm.
In the comment section of her posts, netizens are slamming the actress and her actor husband. For instance, one comment read: “Please boycotting Maldives 🙌Be an informed citizen and know what is going on in your own country”, whereas another social media user wrote: “Maldives nahi Lakshadweep jao.” A third netizen shared, “Cmon.....stop promoting @visitmaldives. After all the shit storm going on regarding derogatory comments about Lakshadweep”, whereas another comment read: “Whole of your own Indian film industry is boycotting Maldives, but you are promoting it. Shame on you guys to be a a paid stooge.”
Before the Maldives row, the beach country was a much loved holiday destination for several Bollywood celebs. What are your thoughts on this entire controversy?
