Ayushmann Khurrana recalls being called unsellable by a director whose film he rejected

Ayushmann Khurrana today has carved a niche for himself in the Hindi film industry. The actor, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming film Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui , had made an impactful debut with Vicky Doner. But, his journey had its own share of troubles after his films flopped back-to-back. Now, in a recent interview, he recalls being called unsellable by a director whose film he had rejected.

Talking to Siddharth Kannan, Ayushmann revealed that he had once rejected a project which a director approached him for after his box office flops with Nautanki Saala , Bewakoofiyaan and Hawaizaada . The director straight up called him unsellable. Ayushmann revealed, “One of the filmmakers told me, ‘Ayushmann, you don’t sell.’ I had said no to a film and I was told, ‘Ayushmann, you don’t sell, why are you saying no to this film?’ Upkaar jaise kar rahe ho, ki yeh film kar lo (It was like he was doing me a favour by offering me the film).”

He further added, “I waited for two years after Dum Laga Ke Haisha , I did not have a release for two years. I was just waiting for the right film.”

Now, Ayushmann is being considered as one of the most successful actors of the generation. Apart from Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, which will release this Friday, the actor has a number of projects in his kitty including Anubhav Sinha ’s Anek and Anubhuti Kashyap’s Doctor G . He will also star in Aanand L Rai ’s production, Action Hero , directed by Anirudh Iyer.
