This is the second Malayalam film this year to receive such open endorsement from Kamal. Earlier, the Tamil superstar threw his full weight behind Manjummel Boys. Written and directed by Chidambaram S. Poduval, the film benefited heavily from the nostalgia of Kamal's cult classic Guna. The iconic song 'Kanmani Anbodu' could be described as the soul of the movie, endearing it to audiences worldwide.
Manjummel Boys, which was shot against the backdrop of Guna cave in Kodaikanal, created box office history in Malayalam cinema. It became the biggest-ever Malayalam hit in Tamil Nadu, where the film grossed more than Rs 60 crore.
Thalavan is a police thriller, which also stars Biju Menon in the lead role. The film opened in cinemas last month to glowing reviews and also performed well at the box office.
