India and the Indian sportsmen and sportswomen are on a roll and how! While one on hand, the Indian sportspersons shone at the recently concluded Paris Olympics. Not the ones to rest on the laurels, the Indian sportspersons repeated history with the Paris Paralympics, in which India’s medal tally shone like a gold, with tons of gold medals in its kitty. Continuing the ‘golden’ tradition are now the Indian Chess players, who have now taken India on an international map by bagging gold medals at the Chess Olympiad.
For the unversed, the awesome Indian players made our nation India proud by bagging gold medals. The names of the players are Grand Masters Gukesh Dommaraju aka Gukesh D, Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, and Tania Sachdev won their respective games to secure gold in the women’s competition.
The medal tally showed India standing at the first position with 35 points on the board. In addition to that, the scoreboard also showed an average rating of 2753 for India with 21 match points and an OSB of 476.5.
While India was leading in the first place, the ones who trailed behind India were the United States of America (USA), which was followed by Uzbekistan, China and Serbia in the second, third, fourth and fifth place respectively.
While on one hand, the entire nation is super proud with their achievements in the chess competition, on the other hand, there was the Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan who took to social media and showered words of appreciation on the shining stars of India.
On his part, Amitabh Bachchan took to social media and posted, ‘Bharat ki adhbhut vijay Chess Olympiad mein, Shatranj ke Khiladi poorna Bharat hai aabhari. Garv se seen chouda hai, Tiranga unhone fehraaaaya hai’. When translated in English, it meant, ‘For the exemplary performance of India in the Chess Olympiad by the chess players, the whole nation is totally indebted to you. Our chests are swelling with immense pride…. You all have hoisted (taken it higher) the national flag. Saying this, he also tagged terms bharat, 45th, fide, chess, olympiad’.
