Speaking about the horrifying incident, Bollywood celebrities including Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Parineeti Chopra, have expressed their outrage and raised questions about women’s safety on their social media handles.
Alia Bhatt reacts to rape-murder of Kolkata doctor
Taking to Instagram, Alia penned a note raising questions about women’s safety in India. She wrote, “Another brutal rape. Another day of realisation that women are not safe anywhere. Another horrific atrocity to remind us that it's been over a decade since the Nirbhaya tragedy, but still nothing much has changed."
Alia added that after hearing about such incidences how is one woman supposed to feel, how will she go to work daily while such incidents are playing in the back of her mind? The actress asserted that this horrific incident has once again reminded people that women bear the weight of ensuring their own safety.
The actor continued by saying that there is no hope that things will change, and she urged the authorities to focus on the safety of women and creating safe spaces for them in all avenues of life.
"These repeated inhuman acts towards women prove that there is something wrong at a root level, and unless we dig deep and uproot the cause, nothing is going to change. Don’t tell women to change their path—change the terrain. Every woman deserves better,” she concluded.
