Updated : January 22, 2023 06:31 PM ISTAkshay Kumar has shared his views on Prime Minister Narendra Modi schooling ministering for making unnecessary remarks against film at the press conference for his upcoming film Selfiee.
Amidst raising calls for boycott against Bollywood movies on social media in which several political leaders have also participated, Prime Minister Narenda Modi ’s warning to his ministers to refrain from passing remarks on movies has been a welcome relief. Actor Akshay Kumar has now reacted to PM Modi’s comment on the boycott culture which has been steadily picking up pace, as the actor launched the trailer of his upcoming movie Selfiee in Mumbai with the cast.
Calling PM Modi the country’s ‘biggest influencer’, Akshay said while interacting with the media at the Selfiee trailer launch that if his remarks made a difference it would be great for the industry. “Positivity is always welcome,” Akshay started by saying, “And if our Prime Minister is saying something, I think he’s India’s biggest influencer, he’s saying something and if things change it will be great for the industry. And why not, things should change because we make films, take them to the Censor Board get them passed, then some says something and that creates a problem. But now that he’s said it, things will work out and it will benefit us.”
PM Modi’s warning to his minister against making "unnecessary comments on irrelevant subjects like movies,” came at time when calls for the boycott of Shah Rukh Khan ’s soon to release Pathaan were joined by a Madhya Pradesh minister from his political party. The movie was in the eye of storm after colours of outfits worn by Shah Rukh and co-star Deepika Padukone in the song Besharam Rang were given political connotations by section of social media.
Since PM Modi’s call for restraint, several politicians have backed down from making unsavoury remarks about movies, especially Pathaan. Akshay, whose movies have in the past also faced boycott, seems to be in complete favour of PM Modi’s call especially in the light of his upcoming film Selfiee.
Akshay’s film Selfiee also stars Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty and Nushrratt Baruccha. The film releases in cinemas on February 24.
