Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's return to the director's chair, 'Lal Salam' officially starts production

The filming for Lal Salaam, director Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's political dram has officially started today. The project marks her return to the director's chair after a gap of 7 years.
The director's last project was the 2017 documentary Cinema Veeran, which chronicled the life and struggles of iconic stunt masters of Tamil cinema.

Aishwaryaa made her directorial debut in 2012 with the critically acclaimed movie '3', which starred DHnaush and Shruti Haasan in the lead.
She would follow this up with the 2015 comedy movie Vai Raja Vai, which starred Gautham Karthik, and Priya Anand in the lead.
As for Lal Salaam, the movie is produced by Lyca Production in association with Red Gaint Movies. The project also marks the return of veteran Tamil actress Jeevitha Rajasekhar to the big screen after 33 years.
The movie will also have a cameo by Superstar Rajinikanth, speaking on Rajinikanth the actor is currently busy with the filing of his upcoming action flick Jailer.
Jailer will be the first time Rajinikanth will be working with Shivarajkumar, the movie also marks the actor's Tamil debut.
The movie will also be the first time Rajinikanth will be working with director Nelson, The director's last movie was the Beast which starred Vijay in the lead role.
Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff has also joined the cast of the movie. This will be the second time Rajinikanth and Jackie Shroff will be working together after the 1987 Bollywood movie 'Uttar Dakshin'.
The release of Jailer was pushed back recently to avoid clashing at the box office with director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Pooniyen Selvam 2.
Director Nelson roped in Malayalam superstar Mohanlal for a cameo in the movie. The movie was announced by Sun Pictures in February and production officially started in July with shooting taking place in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore.
The movie has an ensemble cast that includes Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Yogi Babu, and Vinayakan.
